day 1

lisbon

Flight from Prague to Lisbon, time permitting, a Lisbon city tour for a basic introduction to the city, transfer to the hotel, check-in. Then follows a walking tour of the city center - a stroll along Lisbon's main promenade, Rua Augusta, with street performers, cafés, and elegant shops, passing through Rossio Square to the oldest district of the city, Alfama, with its narrow, romantic streets, free time on your own. In the evening, optional dinner at a restaurant with traditional Portuguese live fado music, overnight stay.

After breakfast, completion of the Lisbon city center tour, the charming Belém district full of monuments from Portugal's golden age, visit to the Monastery of St. Jerome built in honor of the explorer Vasco de Gama, who is also buried here. Departure to the picturesque Portuguese town of Obidos surrounded by 14th-century walls, tour of the center with narrow streets and snow-white houses edged in orange and blue. Transfer to the town of Alcobaca with one of the oldest Gothic monasteries in the country, associated with the birth of the Portuguese nation. Transfer to the picturesque fishing town of Nazaré, visit to the church on the cliff above the resort, the town center with many pubs offering famous Portuguese sardines, free time. Transfer to the hotel, accommodation, dinner, overnight stay.

After breakfast, transfer to Portugal's second-largest city, Porto, charmingly perched on a hill above the Douro River. Tour of the historic center, a UNESCO World Heritage site – including the Sé Cathedral, the churches of St. Francis and St. Clare with their rich interiors, and the bridges… Visit to the cellars where traditional port wine matures (payment on site). Optional boat trip on the Douro River (payment on site). Transfer to the pilgrimage city of Braga, known as the 'Portuguese Rome,' with a tour of the center up to the summit of the pilgrimage site Bom Jesus de Monte – featuring a monumental staircase leading to the church with an impressive view over the valley. After breakfast, departure to the famous university city of Coimbra, the former capital of Portugal – tour of the Universidade de Coimbra, the oldest Portuguese university founded in 1290, featuring a stunning Baroque library, the Old Cathedral – the most important Romanesque building in Portugal, the Church of the Holy Cross with masterpieces of Renaissance sculptural art… Departure to the historic Templar town of Tomar, tour of the town center with the 12th-century Convent of the Order of Christ (UNESCO). Transfer to Batalha, home to the Dominican Monastery of Santa Maria da Vitória, a masterpiece of Portuguese Gothic architecture (UNESCO). Then, head to Cabo da Roca with its lighthouse perched atop a dramatic 140-meter-high cliff – the westernmost point of the European mainland, once considered the edge of the world in medieval times.
