After breakfast, we set off from Playa del Carmen heading south towards Lake Bacalar (about a 3.5-hour drive) – a natural treasure nicknamed the 'Lake of Seven Colors' because of its incredible range of blue-green shades. We'll enjoy swimming in crystal-clear water and have the option to take a boat trip (not included), during which you'll see where the lake is fed by three underground rivers – cenotes that emerge right at its edges. An interesting feature is the unique stromatolites, some of the oldest forms of life on the planet, dating back 3.5 billion years. In the middle of the lake, there’s a perfect spot for relaxing and swimming, while on the shore there’s space for a late lunch with a view of this stunning lagoon. In the evening, we’ll move to an eco-resort in Chicanná, located right in the jungle. A magical evening in nature awaits you – free from city lights, with an atmosphere you’ll fall in love with.
day 3:
After breakfast, we head to the heart of southern Yucatán – the jungle area known as Río Bec, where we will visit Becán – an important ceremonial center and once a powerful Mayan kingdom. Surrounded by lush jungle greenery, you will admire impressive pyramids, palaces, and temples, many of which you can still climb to experience the view like the ancient rulers of this city. The atmosphere of this place, hidden deep in nature, is truly magical. After a short transfer, we will visit Chicanná – literally 'House with Snake Mouths', named after one of the most striking temple facades. This site is a gem of Mayan architecture in the Chenes style, characterized by zoomorphic motifs – gods, snakes, and jaguars become part of the structures. Palaces and temples look like open jaws of mythical creatures. A unique experience for both the eye and the imagination. At the end of the day, we will take a longer transfer to the legendary city of Palenque, where we will stay overnight near one of the most breathtaking Mayan sites. Overnight in Palenque.
day 4:
After breakfast, we will set out to explore the archaeological site of Palenque – one of the most stunning Mayan cities of the Classic period, often hailed as a jewel of Mayan architecture. The city is located at the foothills, surrounded by lush tropical jungle 🌿, giving it an almost mystical atmosphere. The centerpiece of the entire complex is the famous Temple of the Inscriptions, beneath which a crypt with King Pakal's tomb was discovered in the 1960s – one of the most significant archaeological finds in all of Latin America. Palenque will also captivate you with other structures like the Temple of the Sun, the Temple of the Cross, and the Royal Palace, all echoing the ancient glory of the Mayan civilization. After the tour, a refreshing experience awaits – a visit to waterfalls deep in the jungle. We will either head to the Roberto Barrios waterfalls, known for their beautiful cascading formations and natural swimming lagoons, or visit the Misol-Há waterfall, where the famous scene from the movie “Predator” with Arnold Schwarzenegger was filmed – the place looks like it was taken straight out of an adventure film. Return to Palenque, overnight at the hotel.
day 5:
After breakfast, we'll take a scenic drive from Palenque to Campeche, a city on the shores of the Gulf of Mexico that will captivate you with its colonial charm and adventurous history. This rare relic reflects the wealth, spirituality, and artistry of the Mayan civilization. Afterwards, we'll check in right in Campeche's historic center, which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. We'll take a stroll through the colorful colonial heart of the city, where parts of the old walls, fortresses, and cannons have been preserved. Once repeatedly attacked by pirates, the city now retains a peaceful, fairy-tale atmosphere – with vibrant facades, cobblestone streets, and romantic alleys. Return to the hotel, overnight stay.
