day 1
The journey to the beauties of Budapest begins! Departure in the morning from the main train station in Bratislava towards Budapest. Upon arrival in Budapest, you will be welcomed by a Czech or Slovak-speaking guide. Together we will move to the hotel and then we will embark on the first part of exploring the city. We will visit the famous Heroes' Square, where we will briefly get acquainted with the rich history of Hungary. Next, we will ride the historic metro from the 19th century – the very first underground transport system in Europe – and we will go on a tour of St. Stephen's Basilica, the most significant spiritual building in Budapest. After visiting the basilica, we will enjoy a pleasant walk towards Vörösmarty Square, the heart of the city pulsating with life. From there, we will head to the Castle Hill, where we will find the impressive Buda Castle, the former residence of Hungarian kings, followed by the coronation Matthias Church and the romantic Fisherman's Bastion, from where there is a breathtaking view of the Hungarian Parliament and the panorama of the whole of Budapest. After the joint tour, there will be free time during which you can explore the city at your own pace.
2nd day
After breakfast at the hotel, you have the whole day free for individual exploration of Budapest at your own pace. We recommend starting with a visit to the Great Market Hall, which will charm you with its unique atmosphere and diverse offerings of Hungarian specialties and souvenirs (on Saturdays open only until 3:00 PM). From there, it’s just a short walk to the Great Synagogue, the largest Jewish house of worship in Europe, which is one of the most significant monuments in the city. You can take a pleasant walk through Dunakorzó, where interesting sculptures and artworks will catch your eye, or visit one of the important museums – whether it’s the Hungarian National Museum or the Museum of Fine Arts, which is located right at Heroes' Square. Another stop could be the lively Erzsébet Square, where a panoramic ride on the Budapest Eye awaits you, from where you will see the city from a completely new perspective. Budapest is also famous for its thermal baths – and a visit to some of them should definitely not be missed! We recommend the majestic Széchenyi Baths in Art Nouveau style, which are among the largest in Europe. They boast the hottest springs in Budapest and beautiful neo-baroque architecture. After relaxing in the baths, take a short walk to the romantic Vajdahunyad Castle and also visit the House of Hungarian Music, a modern architectural gem by renowned Japanese architect Sou Fujimoto, set in the green City Park. If you are tempted to see Budapest from a different perspective, we recommend an evening cruise on the Danube with a Czech commentary – more information can be found at www.legenda.hu/english.
3rd day
After breakfast at the hotel, you have free time that you can spend at your own discretion. We recommend a leisurely walk along the famous Váci Street, the most well-known pedestrian zone in Budapest, full of shops, cafes, and a lively atmosphere. The Labyrinth under Buda Castle is also worth a visit – a mysterious complex of corridors with a unique atmosphere that will transport you back in time. To conclude the weekend, treat yourself to a sweet finish at one of the legendary Budapest cafes – whether you choose the New York Café with its breathtaking interior or the traditional Gerbeaud, be sure not to miss tasting some of the typical pastries, such as Eszterházy cake or Dobos torte. Departure back to Bratislava in the afternoon.
