Untouched nature and the feeling that you are the only ones in the world. Thanks to endless pine forests, countless lakes, and the lowest population density in Europe, Finland offers everything for those who prefer inspiring solitude during their holiday. You can witness the heavenly symphony of colors of the Northern Lights, playing in all shades of yellow, green, and pink, in Finland for up to 200 days a year. However, you need to travel far north to the Lapland region. The magical experience is definitely worth the journey beyond the Arctic Circle.
day 1:
Departure from Prague with a transfer to Lapland's Rovaniemi. The airport runway crosses the Arctic Circle, as the city is the gateway beyond it. The name Rovaniemi comes from two Sámi words, Rova and Niemi, meaning a forested mountain ridge. Snow covers the area for 175 days a year, with average annual temperatures around 1°C. Many temperature records have been set here, including one where the sun shone continuously for 122 hours. Rovaniemi is also the official home of Santa Claus. Santa's original home was in the mysterious Korvatunturi “Ear Feld,” a location known only to a select few. However, in 1985, Santa Claus decided to establish an office here in Rovaniemi. This allows him to meet visitors from all over the world and share his wisdom about happiness. There is also a post office where you can send postcards to your friends with a special stamp. Transfer to the hotel and check-in. In the evening, we will go on a northern lights (aurora borealis) hunt. In Finland, the aurora is visible about 200 days a year, making it one of the best places in the world to see it. The Aurora expedition is conducted comfortably by minibus, with stops along the way for photography. You will receive tips on how to capture the northern lights realistically to preserve the most beautiful memory. Enjoy a hot drink, taste traditional Lappish gingerbread, and then just wait to see if the aurora appears on the horizon. The guide will provide information about the nature and wildlife of Lapland. Return to the hotel for overnight stay.
day 2:
After breakfast, we will head to visit the Santa Claus Village. At the central square, you can cross the Arctic Circle. Christmas is literally celebrated here all year round; you can send a postcard from the Santa Claus Post Office, which delivers worldwide, visit Mrs. Santa Claus's café, the elves' reindeer, or huskies. Next is a private visit directly with Santa Claus, where you can take photos with him, children can draw pictures or write letters in his presence. In the afternoon, return to Rovaniemi, free time to explore the city individually. Santa Claus also has his city office with a post office located on Lordi Square, named after the Finnish rock band. We also recommend visiting museums – Arktikum, which introduces you to the history and nature of Lapland, including a polar lights simulation; the Korundi Museum of Contemporary Art; or the Tiedeskus Museum about Finnish forests. Don’t forget to try local restaurants offering various dishes made from reindeer or bear meat. Overnight stay.
day 3:
After breakfast, we will visit a husky farm, where the musher will tell us more about huskies. This will be followed by a ride—driving a team of huskies along white, sparkling trails is an experience that is almost a must during a trip to Lapland. The eager dogs run at full speed, and the sleds glide effortlessly over the snowdrifts. This is an experience you will never forget! We continue our adventure with a visit to a reindeer farm, where you will learn more about these Santa’s companions, followed by a short ride in a sled pulled by reindeer. Please note that flying reindeer are reserved exclusively for Santa Claus. Driving them requires special skills that have been passed down for centuries. Every December 23rd, Santa Claus leaves the Arctic Circle and sets off on his journey around the world to deliver Christmas presents to children. Return to the hotel, overnight stay.
day 4:
After breakfast, depending on your schedule, free time individually, followed by transfer to the airport and flight to Prague with a connection.
