The metropolis of South Moravia and the second largest city in the Czech Republic. The city is home to a wealth of historical monuments, museums, galleries, natural landmarks, and a local zoo. The Christmas-decorated streets of the city will surely enchant you.
day 1:
Departure in the early morning hours from the selected boarding point to Brno. We will start the city tour on the hill above the city at Špilberk Castle, founded in the 13th century, which over its 700 years has served many purposes – from the seat of Moravian margraves to a fortress, barracks, and prison. We continue to Moravian Square, one of the largest squares in Brno, home to the Moravian Gallery housed in a former monastery, as well as the Baroque Church of St. Thomas, the equestrian statue called Courage, and the statue of Justice with a fountain. There is also a lovely park with a fountain. Next, we head to another iconic spot in Brno’s city center, full of historic buildings, shops, and cafés. The square dates back to the 13th century, its triangular shape formed by the crossing of trade routes. Notable structures include the plague column from 1689, Klein Palace, House of the Lords of Lipá, the bronze fountain, and the black granite astronomical clock known as the Brno Orloj. Our next stop is Dominican Square, whose western side is occupied by the new town hall. Other interesting buildings here include the Chapel of the Holy Sepulchre. Nearby is the entrance to the Cellar under the New Town Hall, where you can explore the city’s history and legends through an exhibition. We then walk to Cabbage Market, established in the 13th century as a marketplace that still operates today. Beneath the square lies a labyrinth with 212 steps, hiding, among other things, an alchemist’s laboratory. The Moravian Museum, home to the Venus of Dolní Věstonice, is also located on the square. Among other attractions the city offers, we recommend the Capuchin crypt or Villa Tugendhat. Enjoy some free time to visit the Christmas markets held on almost all the mentioned squares. Make the most of your trip and try some local specialties. The Christmas village or children’s carousel on Dominican Square, the wishing bell and popular Winter Bar on Freedom Square, the Christmas tree at Cabbage Market, or the Ferris wheel at Moravian Square. Departure back, return late at night.
