day 1
The train departure to Vienna is scheduled for 9:16 from Bratislava – Petržalka station. Here, we will transfer to the most modern train operated by ÖBB/ČD heading to Graz, departing around 10:58. The route takes us along the unique Semmering mountain railway, which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Upon arrival at Graz main station, a local guide speaking Czech or Slovak will welcome us right on the platform. Together, we will head to the hotel, followed by a guided city tour. Graz (Štýrský Hradec) is Austria's second-largest city after Vienna. Its historic center, with narrow streets and charming courtyards, is also a UNESCO heritage site. The Mur River flows through the city, and we will visit it during the tour. Our route will include the main square, Hauptplatz, with its impressive town hall, the Landhaus – one of the most important Renaissance buildings in Central Europe, famous for its beautiful arcades – and the famous Glockenspiel carillon with its astronomical clock. We will pass by the mausoleum of Emperor Ferdinand II and climb Schloßberg hill, which offers a stunning panoramic view of the entire city. We will also stop at the iconic Uhrturm clock tower, one of Graz’s most recognizable symbols. Tip for the adventurous: Near Schloßberg, you’ll find the world’s longest underground slide. It measures 170 meters and reaches speeds of up to 30 km/h – a fantastic experience for anyone who’s up for a bit of adrenaline!
day 2
After breakfast at the hotel, you’ll have free time to tailor your day to your interests. You can spend it shopping, visiting museums, or strolling among historic landmarks. Fashion lovers will surely appreciate the Kastner & Öhler department store, one of the region’s most important retail institutions. This company made history as the first in Central Europe to introduce fixed prices and also built the very first department store in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The trip includes a Freizeit-Ticket Styria, valid on weekends and holidays throughout Styria. With this ticket, you can take free trips around the Graz area. Recommended destinations include Eggenberg Palace, the city’s most significant Baroque building (though it is closed to the public from November to March). Fans of modern architecture will be captivated by Kunsthaus Graz, a futuristic contemporary art gallery that has become a modern symbol of the city. Another interesting stop is Murinsel, an artificial island on the Mur River where modern architecture blends with natural scenery. If you’re drawn to nature, you can take a regional train to the Austrian open-air museum Stübing, the largest of its kind in the country (closed in winter from November to March). The Rein Monastery, the oldest still-functioning Cistercian monastery in the world, offers a spiritual and historical atmosphere. For the more adventurous, the Lurgrotte Peggau cave features Austria’s longest guided tour route, stretching two kilometers. Another option is a trip to the nearby town of Leoben, home to the luxurious Asia Spa Leoben thermal baths—an ideal place to unwind and relax. For those wanting to soak up local life and taste Styrian specialties, we recommend visiting the traditional markets. The Lendplatz market is located on the right bank of the Mur River, while the largest market in Graz can be found at Kaiser-Josef-Platz. Both markets are open Monday to Saturday from 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and offer a wide selection of fresh produce and local delicacies.
day 3
We will start the day with breakfast at the hotel. The morning is reserved for free time – the perfect opportunity to explore the city on your own. During the warmer months, we recommend enhancing your morning with a pleasant picnic in one of the popular city parks, such as Augartenpark, Stadtpark, or other peaceful green spots in Graz. Departure back to Bratislava is scheduled for around 14:25.
